마태복음 3:1-12 [개역개정]

1 그 때에 세례 요한이 이르러 유대 광야에서 전파하여 말하되

2 회개하라 천국이 가까이 왔느니라 하였으니

3 그는 선지자 이사야를 통하여 말씀하신 자라 일렀으되 광야에 외치는 자의 소리가 있어 이르되 너희는 주의 길을 준비하라 그가 오실 길을 곧게 하라 하였느니라

4 이 요한은 낙타털 옷을 입고 허리에 가죽 띠를 띠고 음식은 메뚜기와 석청이었더라

5 이 때에 예루살렘과 온 유대와 요단 강 사방에서 다 그에게 나아와

6 자기들의 죄를 자복하고 요단 강에서 그에게 세례를 받더니

7 요한이 많은 바리새인들과 사두개인들이 세례 베푸는 데로 오는 것을 보고 이르되 독사의 자식들아 누가 너희를 가르쳐 임박한 진노를 피하라 하더냐

8 그러므로 회개에 합당한 열매를 맺고

9 속으로 아브라함이 우리 조상이라고 생각하지 말라 내가 너희에게 이르노니 하나님이 능히 이 돌들로도 아브라함의 자손이 되게 하시리라

10 이미 도끼가 나무 뿌리에 놓였으니 좋은 열매를 맺지 아니하는 나무마다 찍혀 불에 던져지리라

11 나는 너희로 회개하게 하기 위하여 물로 세례를 베풀거니와 내 뒤에 오시는 이는 나보다 능력이 많으시니 나는 그의 신을 들기도 감당하지 못하겠노라 그는 성령과 불로 너희에게 세례를 베푸실 것이요

12 손에 키를 들고 자기의 타작 마당을 정하게 하사 알곡은 모아 곳간에 들이고 쭉정이는 꺼지지 않는 불에 태우시리라

1 In those days John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness of Judea, proclaiming,

2 "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near."

3 This is the one of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke when he said, "The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.'"

4 Now John wore clothing of camel's hair with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.

5 Then the people of Jerusalem and all Judea were going out to him, and all the region along the Jordan,

6 and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

7 But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

8 Bear fruit worthy of repentance.

9 Do not presume to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our ancestor'; for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham.

10 Even now the ax is lying at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

11 "I baptize you with water for repentance, but one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and will gather his wheat into the granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire."

1 Zu der Zeit kam Johannes der Täufer und predigte in der Wüste von Judäa

2 und sprach: Tut Buße, denn das Himmelreich ist nahe herbeigekommen!

3 Denn dieser ist’s, von dem der Prophet Jesaja gesprochen und gesagt hat: »Es ist eine Stimme eines Predigers in der Wüste: Bereitet dem Herrn den Weg und macht eben seine Steige!«

4 Er aber, Johannes, hatte ein Gewand aus Kamelhaaren an und einen ledernen Gürtel um seine Lenden; seine Speise aber waren Heuschrecken und wilder Honig.

5 Da ging zu ihm hinaus Jerusalem und ganz Judäa und das ganze Land am Jordan

6 und ließen sich taufen von ihm im Jordan und bekannten ihre Sünden.

7 Als er nun viele Pharisäer und Sadduzäer sah zu seiner Taufe kommen, sprach er zu ihnen: Ihr Otterngezücht, wer hat euch gewiss gemacht, dass ihr dem künftigen Zorn entrinnen werdet?

8 Seht zu, bringt rechtschaffene Frucht der Buße!

9 Denkt nur nicht, dass ihr bei euch sagen könntet: Wir haben Abraham zum Vater. Denn ich sage euch: Gott vermag dem Abraham aus diesen Steinen Kinder zu erwecken.

10 Es ist schon die Axt den Bäumen an die Wurzel gelegt. Darum: Jeder Baum, der nicht gute Frucht bringt, wird abgehauen und ins Feuer geworfen.

11 Ich taufe euch mit Wasser zur Buße; der aber nach mir kommt, ist stärker als ich, und ich bin nicht wert, ihm die Schuhe zu tragen; der wird euch mit dem Heiligen Geist und mit Feuer taufen.

12 Er hat die Worfschaufel in seiner Hand und wird die Spreu vom Weizen trennen und seinen Weizen in die Scheune sammeln; aber die Spreu wird er verbrennen mit unauslöschlichem Feuer.
